INTENDED AUDIENCE
Adults interested in mysteries and the supernatural

There was a superstition that cameras steal souls. It’s now considered fact.
Crime scene photographers unwittingly proved this with a new film developer called Negative Preserve. Trapped souls of the dead reacted to this chemical, mutating into shadow creatures called noir. These victims of violent ends now face a world terrified of their existence.
Negative Preserve has since been discontinued.
Prof. William Boyer, an irritable-yet-brilliant noir expert, is asked to help with a peculiar murder case: a fatal hit-and-run should’ve been the end for Samantha Chattan, but she returned as a noir and doesn’t understand why or how. Seething at the news, Boyer is determined to uncover the one responsible for both her death and undeath. Yet Sam can’t help but wonder if his motives are truly altruistic, or if he knows more about her situation than he’s willing to admit.
